A brief introduction of the Maribo-dog
Maribo AB is a family owned company which was started in 1993.
Since then Maribo has developed dogs for various tasks in the
Police Authorities, the Armed Forces and companies in the civil
market. Since 1996 Maribo AB has worked together with Swedish
gas-distributors to develop the most reliable and cost effective method
of detecting gas leaks along the low pressure distribution system
whether it is above ground or below. This is now our specialty and
Maribo AB work in accordance with the strict quality standard
SS-EN ISO 9001.
Swedish gas-distributors and the local government have demanded
the highest level of safety and accuracy since the gas companies
and the government and surrounding infrastructures can’t afford even
one single accident due to gas leakage. The special method of using
the Maribo-dog to detect gas leaks has proven more than successful
over the years and has moreover surpassed the strict political and
economical regulations in all areas.
The Maribo-dog is the development of the reliable Swedish minefield
dog which by experts has been trained by the strictest requirements in
the world. Its specific ability to detect these leaks has proven superior
to any current and known methods.
One of many things which sets aside the Maribo-dog from the
competitors is that it will only detect active presence of a specific VOC-
substance ( Volatile Organic Compounds ). This substance exists most
commonly in the interval C1 – C4.
The dogs highly trained sense of smell is much more sensitive than
any known instrument used for gas leak detection on the market today.
They will detect gas substances at levels far lower than ppb-level.
These dogs are developed for the purpose of detecting only active
presence of one of the following VOC-substances:
• Tetrahydrothiophane ( THT )
• Secondary Butyl Mercaptan ( SBM )
• Tertiary Butyl Mercaptan ( TBM )
• Isopropyl Mercaptan ( IPM )
• Normal Propyl Mercaptan ( NPM )
Above mentioned substances doesn’t exist freely in the nature and
are therefore regarded as exclusive substances. Maribo AB doesn’t
train the dogs to detect the presence of Methane gas since Methane
exists freely in the nature. This is of great importance for the client,
both financially and safety wise. For instance, the client doesn’t need
to pay for unnecessary construction which is very common when other
methods are utilized.
Swedish gas-distributors
has now for several years successfully used the Maribo-dog to detect
gas leaks on their low pressure distribution system above and below
ground and the Maribo method is very well documented and tested.
In 2005, the Swedish Gas Association gave Maribo AB the award for
